Congratulations to Paulo J. Paulino, who successfully defended his PhD thesis (Supervisor: Federico Carollo) in May 2025. He has now moved to a postdoctoral position in Mallorca.
Welcome to Dr Colin Rylands, who joined the group in April 2025 as Assistant Professor! He works on non-equilibrium quantum systems, entanglement entropy, and strongly correlated systems.
A current member of the Stat. Phys. group, Dr Federico Carollo, and a soon-to-be member, Dr Colin Rylands (from 1st April), have both had their work featured in Physical Review Letters’ highly selective collection of the year 2024, in the ‘Quantum information, science, and technology’ category. Congratulations!
Welcome to Dr Federico Carollo, who joined the group in November 2024 as Associate Professor! He works on non-equilibrium quantum many-body systems, open quantum dynamics, and large deviations.
We are advertising two fully funded PhD studentships for a September 2025 start: "Non-equilibrium phases and phase transitions in many-body open quantum systems," supervised by Federico Carollo, and "Quantum spin systems: topology and non-equilibrium dynamics via path integrals over tensor networks," supervised by Chris Hooley. The application deadline is 27th May, though if you're interested please do contact the supervisor(s) in question well in advance of this date!
On Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th February 2025 we are hosting Quantum Workshop Coventry: to submit an abstract or to register to attend, click here.
